Man Utd transfer news: Angel Gomes update with Solskjaer set to lose youngster

Angel Gomes will leave Manchester United this week according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with no progress made in contract negotiations between the player and the club.

Gomes’s contract is set to expire on Tuesday and Solskjaer does not expect him to extend his stay, despite saying earlier this month that an agreement was “not too far away”.

When asked whether Gomes would be leaving United this week, Solskjaer said: “I’ve not heard from them last night or this morning, it seems like they haven’t managed to agree.

“The answer is probably short and ‘yes’, then.”

Gomes will be able to leave Old Trafford as a free agent, with Chelsea understood to be among the clubs interested in signing the highly-rated youngster.

The 19-year-old has only made three starts for United under Solskjaer this season, with all of them coming in the Europa League.

Gomes travelled with the United squad for their final outing before lockdown – the last-16 trip to LASK Linz – but was left out of Solskjaer’s matchday squad.
